Laxfest 2025 is a wrap!

Woo Hoo! Laxfest 2025 is a wrap!!!

Rain or shine the Ted Hellier Laxfest is by far my favorite day of the year, though I’m not going to lie, I do prefer shine! Thanks so much to all who came and braved the rainy, foggy weather to play some lacrosse.

I Love this day for so many reasons. To all the teams and their coaches, Thank You! I am so grateful that you all show up year after year to honor Teds memory by playing a game he so loved.  I am always so impressed with all the teams that show up, how kind and polite all the players and coaches are, each representing their schools, towns and clubs is such a positive way. I love the festive feel in the air, it is so contagious, everyone is happy to be here and ready to play and it just feels so good to be around all that good positive energy!

I have so many more of you to thank, the list here is enormous, so bear with me…Our tireless Ted Hellier Community Lacrosse Fund board without whom this event would not happen. They work tirelessly form January-June to make this day go off without a hitch. There are so many moving parts behind the scenes and these folks do it all and with a smile!!  Our volunteers…A huge round of applause to all our volunteers, who donate so much of their time and talent to make the day run so smoothly, this day would not be possible without you. The crew at Wainwright, who allow us to keep returning. They do all the things that make the playing fields ready and let us take over the facility for the day, I’m so grateful they trust us to take good care and leave it as we found it. The South Portland Girls and Boys Varsity and JV Lacrosse teams, who show up on Friday to get the fields ready, drop tables and put  tents up, put all the signs out, number the fields, and then they return bright and early on Saturday to field marshal, direct parking, sell swag, ref games and do whatever is asked of them.  What an amazing bunch of respectful, kind, humans they all are, and we are so grateful for all their help. All the returning players who come back to help, HUGE thanks, don’t think I didn’t see you all, you are truly gems. To all the food trucks, and vendors who help make Laxfest a FESTIVAL…Thank you.  And of course, enourmous gratitude to all our generous sponsors, we could not pull off this day without your continued and very generous support.

I have been a part of the lacrosse community for 22 plus years now, There is nothing quite like it. I am so grateful to be a part of such a kind and generous group of folks. I am grateful for all of you in the community who show up. We are so lucky that we get to produce such a great festival, that it allows us  to do good things for our community, and that we get to show up for each other. Thanks for making that happen. Until next year, continue to spread the joy, kindness and positive energy, you make a difference.

All the best,

Susan Hellier
